| Brief: The team began this investigation
with the assumption that the study spaces at Uris Library do not provide an acoustical
environment that is appropriate for its use. Originally conceived as a space for books
with limited access in 1889, the building is now a major place of refuge for those in
search of a quiet corner to read. However, based upon experience, the student
investigators felt that many of the spaces did not conform to this opinion, which led to
the reason for this acoustical study. Individual comfort is highly varied, and the acoustical environment is no exception. The team found that some spaces seemed to be preferred among the visitors, and focused on those areas. |
