Request For Proposals
Vital Signs Case Study Teaching Support Grants

Part Two - Scope of Work

Schools submitting a proposal for a teaching support grant should be prepared to follow the schedule below.

The skylight at the new San Francisco Museum of Modern Art as viewed from the interior lobby. What are the light levels and the quality of light at the interior? How have glare and solar gain been controlled? These and other questions could lead to many different investigative field studies by students.
momaint.jpg (29642 bytes)Task 1 - Prepare proposal as outlined in Section III below. Proposals must be received by Vital Signs no later than 17 November 1997.

Task 2 - Send a faculty representative to a meeting in the Bay Area from Friday afternoon through Sunday morning, January 23-25, 1998. This faculty member will present the plan of action for the building investigation. The plan will be reviewed by the Vital Signs staff and faculty representatives from other schools participating in the award program. The Vital Signs Project will reimburse the faculty representative for her or his travel, food and lodging expenses within the limits allowed by the University of California, Berkeley.

Task 3 - Submit a letter from the faculty advisor to the Vital Signs Project Coordinator sometime between March 20 and 27. This letter should describe the progress of the student work to date.

Task 4 - Submit completed building case studies in HTML file format, with accompanying electronic graphics, on a "Zip" disk in either Macintosh or PC format. These files should be ready to be uploaded to the internet and viewed using Netscape Navigator or Microsoft Internet Explorer. A diagram showing an example file organization for case studies is attached to this RFP as Appendix 1. Case studies must follow the Case Study Style Guide found on the internet at the Case Study Style Guide web page. They should be received by Vital Signs no later than 30 June 1998. The University of California reserves a non-exclusive license to reproduce materials developed during this project with the intent that the reproduction and sharing of this work, with proper acknowledgement, is to be encouraged. Specific language regarding rights to the case studies will be included in contracts between UC Berkeley and schools receiving the awards. Please note that the tight schedule for proposal review and notification requires that proposals be received by U. C. Berkeley on time for consideration. This is not a "soft" due date.
