1998 Student Case Study Competition
Undergraduate
Winners I Graduate Winners
The 1998 Competition asked students to study and report on
the physical performance of existing buildings in terms of energy use, occupant comfort
and well-being, architectural space-making and environmental impact. A central requirement
of the competition was that entries be based on information gathered through direct,
in-person experience of the building.
This competition was open to students in ACSA member
schools of architecture and ABET member schools of architectural engineering in the United
States and Canada. It was made possible by a grant from The Educational Foundation of
America.
The Vital Signs staff would like to express its thanks to
the jurors who contributed so much of their time to the success of the competition.
Winning entries were chosen by a jury composed of:
- Nancy Clanton, President, Clanton
Engineering, Boulder, Colorado
- Gail Lindsey, Principal, Design Harmony,
Raleigh, North Carolina
- Nadav Malin, Editor, Environmental Building
News
- Jay Palu, 1998-99 AIAS President
We also wish to thank:
- Will Bruder, Architect, New River, Arizona
- Charles Davis, Principal, Esherick Homsey
Dodge and Davis, San Francisco, California
Mr. Bruder and Mr. Davis were unable to attend the final
jury session. They participated in the intial phase of review, which narrowed the entries
to those considered in-depth at the jury session.
