Architecture Visual Resources Library

Architecture Visual Resources Library’s circulating collection of 35mm slides is organized into two main sections: Architectural History, for the study of individual buildings and the cultural climate in which they were built; and, Topography, the detailed examination of places.

Every historical period section contains a General Section. The General Section contains images that help describe the cultural period in which buildings were created. A third section, Miscellaneous, contains technical and social materials. Table 8 shows the arrangement of the photography study collection.

The entirety of AVRL’s Classification Manual has been mounted on the web in response to requests from other slide libraries. In addition, we are wondering whose schema originally called for a three line classification number. If this scheme looks familiar to you, please let the librarian Maryly Snow know.
