Sketch from first class before working
with the model Sketch at the end of the physical model exercise
In this exercise we were asked to build a daylighting model of an existing space. As a group we chose to construct the model of the elevator lobby at the 8th floor of Wurster Hall. We compared the two spaces, the model and the full scale one, in terms of observations, photographs and measurements. We, then, applied some modifications to the model in order to improve the daylighting qualities of the space. Click on the picture on the left to see our findings. |

This project is an investigation of the window over the course of the 20th century on the University of California campus in Berkeley. |
This project ran efficiently due to the compactness of the equipment involved. A simple matte white box with a window in it came to life in often surprising ways as I varied the view from the opening. Click HERE to see the main page (this will open a new window).

This exercise explore the dynamic effect of daylight. In particular I focused on the light patterns that the sun draws on the eastern concrete wall in the studio at the 8th floor of Wurster Hall late in the afternoon between the two equinoxes.
