Source Qualities

For this project, I wanted to use a space within the building I designed for thesis.  For thesis, I designed a visitor's center for the Tallgrass Prairie National Preserve. This visitor's center has a long, narrow skylight.  I wanted to gain a better understanding of what kind of light this skylight would provide.

The modeled space is a portion of the theater.  The theater space accommodates both talks and films.  The goal was to test a narrow slit skylight that measures 12" wide but runs along the entire long side of the room.  For the films, the skylight becomes covered.  For the talks, as well as the entry/exit time for the films, the skylight remains open.  The model, built at 3/4" scale, measures 20' x 30' - or 1/2 of the room as designed.
